What a match.....

The EBFA Trophy Finals Event at Ascot United FC couldn't have been more inviting to our bunch of football crazy Hearts of Teddlothian U7 Tornadoes as they headed into the grounds of this immaculate setting on a beautiful sunny morning for their Cup Final showdown with Old Windsor Tigers Blacks.

After handshakes and well wishes by all players and coaches orchestrated to perfection by an excellent referee, the match got underway. There was certainly tension in the air during the first quarter but both teams settled into a rhythm of football with some terrific passing, tackling and dribbling and a general display of skills and focus you wouldn't imagine for a group of 7yr olds. End to end football presented plenty of opportunities but great goalkeeping at either end kept the scoresheet blank.

Old Windsor certainly gathered some momentum into the second quarter and produced an excellent goal to lead into the third quarter which was evenly balanced and again goal less. The final quarter was another end to end slog. There was some brilliant passing and great sportsmanship as the tackles went in firmly and fairly. Tornadoes turned up the heat a little and managed to carve an opening to snatch a well earned goal taking the game into a penalty shoot-out.

The way both teams handled the shoot out was a credit to all players, coaches and parents because a nerve jangling 10mins produced some tremendous goals and saves with Old Windsor coming out eventually on top.

Handshakes, three-cheers and plenty of inter-congratulatory comments by coaches, parents and officials combine to form the abiding memory of what was an absolute thrilling culmination to a fantastic season.

Well done to all players, parents, coaches, referee and most of all....huge congratulations to Old Windsor Tigers Blacks!
