Thank you to all who got involved in the U9s tournaments this year. Well over 30 boys from across the age group were able to experience the enjoyment of playing lots of football in the summer sun, great reward for all the cold winter training and away matches outside the M25! And we even got some silverware to be proud of! Plus, I am delighted to say, participation levels were high and although we were fully subscribed on some occasions, everybody who signed up to play in each of the tournaments was able to do so, and we didn't have to turn anyone down
Three of the tournaments were for teams that were put together by mixing up the usual league teams into the special tournament teams of Pirates & Buccaneers. This gave the boys the opportunity to play in teams made of players from across the age group, great for building camaraderie and making new friends, plus getting used to different playing styles from listening to different coaches.
The tournaments started at Ascot, where results weren't as good as we hoped, with both the Buccaneers & Pirates struggling to find first gear. But things changed at Fleet, where both teams faired much better and finding their targets... resulting in the Buccaneers winning their competition thus adding another piece of silverware for Hearts of U9s this season! The Pirates & Buccaneers also played at the more local NPL tournament, with the Buccaneers reaching the quarter finals.
The Hawks and Falcons entered themselves into the Hampton & Richmond FC 5-aside tournament. Opposition was tough, and both teams struggled to beat some academy level teams, but it was a fantastic experience for the boys to play on the sacred turf of H&R Borough FC at the Beveree Stadium.
The Falcons also went to Ashridge Park, where they reached the final, narrowly losing to a single goal in extra time. Their final tournament was in in Camberley this weekend, where they reached the quarter finals.
That marks the end of tournament season for Hearts U9, time to hang up my whistle for a while, and look forward to the summer!
Thanks again to everyone who got involved, I for one am looking forward to next season already!
