Away duck broken in style

The u10 Lions lined up for only their third away game, the spectre of defeats in every other away game hanging over the heads of management...despite the 100% home record, post Ranieri, Paul and Charlie feared the dreaded parental vote of confidence would be forthcoming if another trip on the road proved unsuccessful....

Thankfully the team continue to display everything you could possibly ask for - a fabulous work rate, polite and respectful to each other, the opposition and the referee and an absolute commitment to ensuring they have a great time playing football, regardless of the outcome.

In the end the newly formed Lions roared to victory over an experienced Winnersh team who had been playing together since the u7s. A 13-2 victory did not flatter the one-sided match that it was, but the real story of the game was the quality of the Lion's play and not the scoreline.

Lining up in a Christmas tree formation, the Lions looked like the team that had been together for three seasons. Turning defence into attack at will (and often by Will), Winnersh continued to be caught out by the pace, width and passing and movement of the team (hours of triangles on the training pitch paying off!). Nine of the ten players were on the score sheet, with Aaron, Eden, Henry, Tara and Will all scoring their first competitive goals for the team. Joe got his second hat-rick for the Lions and Charlie, Sean and Sam were also amongst the goals. Jack was not able to find the back of the net but he can claim 13 assists as his stalwart last-man defending allowed the wing-backs to maraud down the flanks and the centre midfielders to support the attack. A special mention also for Tara who came down to watch the team despite this being her week to sit out and who ended up filling in for poor Tadgh who came down with a bug late on Friday night.

Most importantly of all, the team behaved impeccably throughout, never getting carried away and showing respect and empathy to an opposition who were having 'one of those days', which can happen to anyone.
