Welcome to a new season, new team, new venue, new hope, for a game that, at long last, has eleven-a-side!
The Ligers have grown out of the remnants of the U12 Lions and the full Tigers squad. The amalgamation sees us playing (at least until Christmas) in Division E; this should give us plenty of encouragement given that our former Lions are used to playing two sections higher and the Tigers were in D last year. Now selecting a starting 11 for the first time, evergreen Coach Simon Wallis has a squad of 18 to choose from, which may well cause him even more headaches as we missed out on Europe this year. Nevertheless, a full day's training on Monday has got at least two-thirds of the squad focussed on what lies ahead.
This Saturday's opponents make the trip from Sonning and are probably more relieved than us that Twickenham Academy groundsmen don't work before 9am on a Saturday! Whilst I'm not sure that we have entertained the Panthers before, the Tigers did play the Wolves in their very last game as Under 11s (2017), losing 0-1.
We welcome Zac Endemano to the Club. Whilst Zac's family have long been associated with Hearts, this is his first season playing for the Club. A warm welcome and best wishes.
So, let's get behind the boys, support the referee, applaud the opposition and have a great season.
See you on Saturday
