Ligers return to League action this week with the usual long journey, this time the M4 to Caversham Park, home of the Coyotes. This is a new opponent for the group so there is nothing to be said of previous encounters. The League's top four all avoid each other this week so none of the pace-setters will want to slip up before going into the half-term break.
Caversham run three U13 boys teams and a girls team; the club is similar in size to Hearts. The Coyotes, who boast a squad of 15 players, find themselves in 5th place in the EBFA, 2 points behind Ligers. They have maintained a 100% record at Clayfield Copse with wins against lowly Whitegrove and Ashridge, but they took a bit of a hammering on their trip to Teddington Athletic and recorded a 4-4 draw last time out at Woodley Saints.
Ligers travel with a squad of 14 thanks to the first appearance of James. Sam is recovering from a broken foot, Tommy has an injured ankle, whilst Gabriel and Hayden both have school commitments. Matt will be trying to record his first clean sheet of the season, hoped by the fast-improving defensive understanding of Joe and Toby who look to be getting to grips with marshalling the offside trap whilst covering often speedier attackers. Up front, George L will look to add to his 13 goals.
There is no game on 20th October (half-term) but then it's the big clash with Pinewood Panthers who will be smarting from last week's cup result.
Let's head into it with all guns blazing. Go Ligers!
