Saturday 13th May,
The U9 Falcons had a tough day out at the Hampton & Richmond Borough tournament today. It wasn’t quite the cup winning performance we have come used to from the EBFA Trophy winners, but the boys all enjoyed an afternoon in the sun playing on the sacred turf of Hampton & Richmond Borough FC Beveree Stadium.
The faster & smaller pitches of the 5-aside format took a little getting used to, with the Falcons losing their opening two matches quite convincingly against the hosts, and then Claygate. The boys required a change of attitude and tactics for the third game, which they narrowly lost 1-0 to an unlucky goal against Kew AFC (even the opposition coach agreed it was not a fair result!)
The boost in confidence paid off in the fourth and final match, which ended a 1-1 draw against Kew Park Rangers, with easily the best strike of the day from star defender Archie MacKintosh. So the boys finished the day on a high and gave the patient spectators something to cheer about.
Despite the results, there was plenty to learn and build on, with lots more tournament fun to come for the U9s over the next few weeks!
