Falcons come from behind in a close game at Carlisle Park

Report by Susie Makepeace

It was back to the home turf of Carlisle Park this week, as Hearts Falcons hosted AFC Charvil for the second game of the season.
Matthew opened the scoring for Hearts in the first quarter with a low shot from the left of goal, which confused the keeper and trickled over the line to the delight of the Falcons. Inspired, Falcons pressed well up the pitch, with Pete and Gabriel piling on the pressure, and Marcus coping admirably with a spell in defence. Archie, playing in goal for Falcons, made some great saves but was sadly unable to get to a high ball which was pitched over his head to put Charvil on terms, 1-1.
A great shot from Pete flew just a fraction high over the crossbar as the second quarter got underway. Falcons efforts in attack were matched by Archie’s bravery in goal, backed up by the always able Louis in defence. However, Charvil were on the hunt for a goal, and their efforts paid off with a ball that sailed high over Archie’s head, taking the score to 2-1 to Charvil.
Hearts looked a little dispirited in the third quarter, but were cheered by some committed tackling by Richard as Charvil kept up a barrage of shots on our goal. Refusing to be intimidated, man of the match Gabriel let fly a rocket of his own, which the poor Charvil goalie took full force in the face.
As time ticked on in the final quarter, the boys dug deep, with Stanley running his socks off on the right wing. Christopher, who showed great pace throughout the match, put in a pass to Max who went face to face with the Charvil goalie. Keeping his composure he popped the ball around him and booted it into the empty goal to end the match 2-2.
Falcons worked hard for the draw against this able Charvil side, and had Archie to thank for keeping them in contention in a game that could easily have gone Charvil’s way. Captain Stanley led the Falcons to shake hands with the travelling team, with all the boys showing the sporting attitude that makes Hearts parents proud.
