In Memory of Paul Cecil – Co-Founder & Former Chairman of HoTFC

Dear All,

It’s with a heavy heart that I share the sad news of the passing of Paul Cecil, former Chairman and Co-Founder of Hearts of Teddlothian FC (HoTFC).

Paul, along with a group of local parents, founded the club back in 2007. HoTFC’s roots go back to Sacred Heart Primary School in Teddington, where parents would gather socially on Saturday mornings at Broom Road Rec. What began as a fun kickabout for fewer than 15 children of mixed ages and abilities soon grew into something much more meaningful.

That summer, several children decided to attend trials at a local football club. Sadly, while some were accepted, others were excluded. Paul and the other parents felt this was unfair especially given the friendships and bonds between the children. In response, they decided to form their own club. And so, Hearts FC was born founded on the principle of inclusion.

By the end of our first season, the club had grown rapidly, with over 150 players on pitches across the Teddington and Hampton area. The reason for this growth was simple: Paul and the founding members refused to hold trials based on ability. Instead, they welcomed any child who wanted to play football, have fun, and feel valued. Without Hearts FC, many of those players might never have had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful game.

Before founding HoTFC, Paul was a rugby coach, and he brought that spirit with him instilling a culture of fairness, sportsmanship, and respect for officials, teammates, and opposition alike. This ethos continues to set us apart and defines the soul of our club today.

Paul remained a passionate supporter of the club, often asking for updates and expressing his amazement at how it had grown at one point reaching nearly 800 local players. Hearts of Teddlothian FC was always in his heart.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Paul’s family and friends. He leaves behind a lasting legacy and a community forever grateful for his vision and kindness.

Warm regards,
Jat Mistry
Chairman of HoTF
